Glaciers

After getting totally soaked on the road to Fox Glacier township the afternoon turned glorious. We walked to the Glacier from the village along the new path through the bush. You could get within 80 metres of the terminal face of the Fox Glacier and it was stunning, stretching far into the mountains behind.

The following day we cycled to Franz Josef in the most amazing rain, we were utterly drenched by the time we arrived so booked another cabin! We joined a tour the next day that actually went onto the glacier for a full day - crampons, no toilets and stunning weather, it was fab. We crossed ice falls, walked through crevasses and shuffled through ice caves. An amazing day.
